For Complex News, I’m Hanuman Welch. If you’ve ever tried to grow weed at home, you probably know that the learning curve is pretty steep. Without the right grow room, knowledge of upkeep, and basic fundamentals of botany, growing your own crop is a real challenge, until now. One start-up is oping to mitigate the more difficult aspects of growing your own weed at home with stand alone device that looks like a refrigerator, but for weed. LEAF is a self-contained growing unit that can, of course, be used to grow other plants, but it’s designed to make weed-growing hassle free. The start up is the brainchild of Yoni Ofir, a veteran of the Israeli army who uses marijuana to treat his anxiety. Ofir started LEAF in April 2015 and knows how difficult it is to get your own grow operation off the ground as he told Forbes. “Growing cannabis yourself is not easy, it’s very time-consuming and requires a lot of knowledge and daily upkeep. As I learned more about growing, I came up with the idea to automate it with smart home technology.” Well, everything else in a person’s home, from security services to the air conditioning, can be monitored and adjusted using a corresponding smartphone app, so why not a home grow? The LEAF went on pre-order sale on Wednesday with an asking price of $3,000.
LEAF connects to the owner’s smartphone, allowing for remote control of humidity, temperature, plant nutrition, and maybe most importantly technology that dampers the scent. The LEAF will also dry your weed plants for a faster turnaround from harvest to smoke. That’s all for now, but for everything else, subscribe to Complex on Youtube..
